Mrs. Melissa Gil, formerly known as Ms. Stonestreet, is currently one of the Administrative Assistants of Mater Lakes Academy as it’s her first year in administration. She is also the Peer Counseling teacher and Yearbook Advisor.
Mrs. Gil was born and raised in Miami, FL. She also completed all of her post-secondary education in Miami. Melissa Gil began her career in education as a teacher right after graduating in May 2011 with a Bachelors in Psychology and Liberal Arts with Minors in Education and Philosophy from St. Thomas University. In December 2012, she graduated with her first Masters in Special Education with a Specialization in Gifted Education from St. Thomas University as well. In 2015, Mrs. Gil graduated with a Masters in Educational Leadership from American College of Education.
Melissa Gil has been a part of the MLA family and educational field for eight years. She began as a certified teacher for 9th and 10th grade English and Journalism teacher for three years. Her certification is in English 6- 12th with an ESOL Endorsement. Mrs. Gil then became the Student Activities Director for four years.
Along with the teacher and Activities Director position, other roles she held were Electives Department Chair, Cheerleading Head Coach (4 years), Yearbook Advisor (5 years), Class Sponsor for Class of 2016, 2017, 2018, and Student Government Sponsor. During her time as a sponsor, MLA began participating in the Florida Association of Student Council to MLA for the first time.
Her most recent accomplishment is being accepted into the Doral Leadership Program in their 5th cohort. She is the first Mater Alumni to be accepted into the program. This is a step towards a career goal as she aspires to be an Assistant Principal in the near future.
